NASCAR legend ‘Alabama Gang’ member Bobby Allison passed away

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – NASCAR legend and ‘Alabama Gang’ member Bobby Allison has passed away at the age of 86, NASCAR announced Thursday.

Allison, who lived most of his racing career in Hueytown, raced at the track from 1961-1988 and was always one of the most beloved drivers on the track.

Allison’s family and NASCAR released the following statements:

Bobby Allison’s family announces with deep sadness that he passed away at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on November 9, 2024. His health had been declining over the last few years, but he continued to give back to the sport he loved.

Bobby was the biggest fan driver. He enjoyed spending time with his fans and everywhere he went he would stop, sign autographs and chat with them. He was a devoted family man, friend and devout Catholic.

Arrangements were not announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to Bobby’s home church (St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC), your local Catholic church or diocese, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Preservation Society, or the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
