‘Division between democratic forces helping fascists’

BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday expressed concern and said that supporters of fascists have started to re-emerge due to division among democratic forces.

“One point that should be taken into consideration is that fascists have started to raise their heads again due to various negative statements and discourses. Unfortunately, some of our media is propagating this, which I believe will not benefit people in any way.” .

The BNP leader made these remarks while addressing a debate organized by the Youth Forum at the Supreme Court auditorium. He called on the media and those running negative campaigners to refrain from such actions. “I also urge young people to take a stand and work to stop this trend.”

Fakhrul said the only way to overcome the crisis facing the country is patience, completion of necessary state reforms and then holding a fair and credible election. He urged everyone not to miss the opportunity to rebuild the state through the mass uprising led by students. “If this opportunity is missed, our existence as a nation will be in danger. I want to emphasize this.”

The BNP leader also said that the interim government, which is currently responsible for running the state, is supported by all quarters, including students and politicians.

“We have entrusted them with this responsibility in the hope that they will clean up the mess created by the Awami League in the last 16 years and organize a credible election. Thanks to this election, we can build the new Bangladesh that the youth desires.” he said.

Fakhrul said they have repeatedly talked about the election as they believe that no reform initiative can succeed without the active participation of the people. “Such participation is only possible through an elected parliament.”

He said that if the parliament is made more effective, it will be possible to ensure democratic culture and practices in the country.

Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, also spoke.
