20-year-old Jacksonville man arrested for murder: JSO

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has charged a 20-year-old with murder following the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man on Wednesday.

Deputies said officers responded to the shootings at New Kings Road and Edgewood Boulevard just before midnight, where they found 44-year-old Travis Gettis with a gunshot wound. He later died in hospital.

According to homicide detectives, they were able to quickly locate evidence that led to a suspicious vehicle registered to 20-year-old Lavertis Reed.

Facebook post CPR detectives from JSO state that Aviation Unit and Gang Unit detectives located Reed at a strip mall off Dunn Boulevard and took him into custody within 16 hours of the shooting.
