New York Islanders Defenseman Away Indefinitely

It hasn’t been an easy start to the year for the New York Islanders. Despite having a 6-6-2 record and sitting in the middle of the Metropolitan Division, the team had many obstacles to overcome.

Now the Islanders have another player who will miss a significant amount of playing time. They shared that veteran defenseman Mike Reilly will be out indefinitely and will be placed on injured reserve. The news comes after the team previously announced that the defenseman was working out “every day” with an upper-body injury.

The islanders’ biggest problem is their injury situation. They were unlucky, or perhaps cursed, when it came to players staying healthy.

Set recently lost Star center Mat Barzal’s stay for at least a month due to his upper body injury gave the Islands a big gap to fill in the offense. They also lost defenseman Adam Pelech during the same time frame as he dealt with his own upper-body injury. These two joined the winger Anthony Duclair is on the long-term injured reserve list. Reilly joins that list as injuries continue to mount in New York.

This is Reilly’s second season. islanders. The first season was successful in every aspect. He played in 59 games, scoring six goals and 24 points and averaging a reliable 17 minutes per game. He has played in the first 11 matches so far this season. He did not record a goal or assist, but averaged just under 16 minutes of ice time per game.

Reilly, 31, is a veteran of 10 NHL seasons and 411 games. Originally prepared by Columbus Blue JacketsBefore joining the Islanders, he spent his career with the Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers. He accumulated 18 goals, 104 assists and 122 total points in 411 games.
