NORMAN, Oklahoma. The Virginia women’s basketball team (1-1) was unable to recover from an early scoring streak and fell to 10th place Oklahoma (2-0) with a score of 95-51 on Friday night, November 8, at the Lloyd Noble Center. . The Cavaliers reduced the 21-point lead to 17 in the first half, but suffered their first loss of the season in the third quarter and took a 35-16 lead.

Freshman Breona Hurd led the Cavaliers with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and a pair of assists on the night. Paris Clark (11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists) and Kymora Johnson (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) also scored in double digits for the Cavaliers.

How Did It Happen?
Breona Hurd connected from behind the arc to give Virginia an early 3-2 lead, but the Wolfpack scored nine consecutive points to make it 11-3. The Cavaliers scored six straight points to cut the Sooner lead to just a couple, but a 12-6 run by Oklahoma led Virginia to trail 25-15 after the first quarter. Latasha Lattimore led UVA with five points (1-2 FG, 2-2 FT) in the first quarter.

Edessa Noyan started the second quarter with a three-pointer, but the Sooners took their biggest lead in the first half to 21 points (43-22) with a 16-4 run. Paris Clark’s three-pointer followed by Breona Hurd’s transition layup helped the Cavaliers reduce the gap to 17 (44-27) at halftime.

Oklahoma outscored Virginia 35-16 in the third quarter and outrebounded the Hoos 17-8 to score 9 second-chance points. Hurd scored seven of his 15 points in the third quarter, while Johnson went 2-for-3 from three-point range and scored six points in the quarter.

In the last quarter of the game, the Cavaliers took a 16-8 lead. Oklahoma’s lead would increase to 46 points (94-48) before the final whistle of the 95-51 loss.
