The former won the race in 2023 and faced defeat just once in a six-race campaign last season, paying the price for a bad mistake in the Clarence House Chase at this track in January.

Edwardstone won the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury and on his last start finished third behind Jonbon in the Celebration Chase at Sandown, beaten by four lengths.

Calico and Unexpected Party could represent Dan Skelton, while Celebration Chase’s fourth Boothill is set for another crack at the principals and Liberty Hunter, Master Chewy and Matata round out the field.

Meanwhile, irrigation continues at Prestbury Park after just 2mm of rain has fallen since last month’s Showcase Meeting.

The outlook for all routes is described as good and mostly dry weather is expected next week, although there is a chance of light showers on Wednesday.
