In a shocking incident, a group of armed militants allegedly raped and burnt alive a 31-year-old tribal woman in Jiribam district of Manipur on Thursday night (November 7). The victim, who was a teacher in a village school, was survived by his wife and three children. It was also reported that many houses were set on fire.

The Jiribam police chief’s statement provided some clarity on the immediate steps to be taken in response to the horrific incident, but also highlighted bureaucratic hurdles.

The victim’s body has been sent to Silchar in Assam for post-mortem, the officer said.
