Parades will be held annually in towns and villages, followed by services in local churches

Communities across the city will come together this weekend to celebrate Remembrance Sunday, a day commemorating those killed in conflict.

At war commemorations throughout the district, crowds are expected to gather for the ceremonies while wreaths are laid and a moment of silence is observed in memory of the martyrs.

In addition, various parades are held every year in towns and villages, followed by services in local churches.

We have compiled some of the events that took place this year for you.

Ahead of the Remembrance Service on Sunday, the New Folkestone Society will host the Son et Lumière Memorial Parade on Saturday evening.

The free walk will take place between 18:00 and 20:00 GMT in front of The Grand, The Leas and Folkestone.

On Sunday, a ceremony will be held in the old market square outside the entrance to Canterbury Cathedral from 10.25am, where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.

There will also be a ceremony inside the cathedral at 10.50am, and a parade will take place from noon, featuring local military groups, charities and community clubs.

In Dover, crowds will watch bannermen, veterans and community groups march down Biggin Street to the war memorial at Maison Dieu House.

The two-minute silence, wreath-laying and memorial service will be led by the Mayor of Dover, who will take the salute at St Mary’s Church.

The fundraising concert, which features performances from the Shorncliffe Military Wives Choir, Shepway Brass Academy, Dance Fusion, Royal Marines and Army and Air Cadets, returns to Folkestone this year.

The Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication Service will be held at the War Memorial at Royal Tunbridge Wells from 10.45am.

Following the ceremony and wreath-laying, a March of History will be held where masses and other organizations will pay tribute.
