GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Macon County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam.

According to the sheriff’s office, the caller identified himself as a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) agent and told residents their bank accounts had been hacked.

The caller says residents should withdraw all their money if someone from the FTC comes and takes the money.

Officials said the FTC would never tell residents to withdraw the money and hand it over to someone.
