Remembering Elvis Tzintzun

After this heinous act, a 4-year-old child and his wife are left fatherless and husbandless.

Tzintzun was born in Mexico and came to the United States when he was just a year old, according to Tzintzun’s wife, Melissa Solis. He spent five years in California as a child before moving to New York with his father and brother.

Solis said Tzintzun was practically raised by his brother, and the younger Tzintzun spent his days with the staff at New Dorp High School, while his older brother attended classes.

Elvis was a student at PS 19 and IS 51, both in Staten Island.

Solis says Tzintzun was arrested in 2008 and deported to Mexico. He would spend a few years living south of the border before returning to the states in 2019.

“A lot of people know him,” Solis said. “A lot of people love it. The number of people who reached me, all their friends; I believe it is very beautiful. “He touched the hearts of many people,” he said.

Since Tzintzun did not have a mother in her life, the older women in the community took on this role, and so Tzintzun began calling them “Mother”.

Solis said Tzintzun worked many jobs in his life that took him from bakeries to construction sites.

Although he never decided on a separate career, Tzintzun is remembered as a talented artist with an innate talent for drawing and a passion for rapping.

“He was very, very cute,” Solis said. “He never stopped telling me how beautiful I was and how much he loved me. He was the sweetest man. He was so sweet to anyone and everyone. He respected women; “He didn’t like anyone disrespecting a woman because he would stand up.”

Following Tzintzun’s death, Solis started a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of gathering support to cover funeral and memorial expenses.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and provide our family with much-needed relief during this emotional time,” the GoFundMe reads in part. “Thank you for your love, support and kindness.”
