All Blacks knock Ireland off top of world rankings, Springboks move to top: Planet Rugby

New Zealand knocked Ireland off the top of the World Rugby rankings after an impressive 23-13 win at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Will Jordan scored the All Blacks’ only try of the match and Damian McKenzie’s 18 points from the face-off spot moved Scott Robertson’s side into second place in the standings for now, with top spot still a possibility.

Josh van der Flier crossed for the hosts’ only try with Jack Crowley adding the extras and two penalties as Ireland suffered their first home loss after 19 consecutive wins.

Ireland dropped to third place in the rankings

Ireland After the 24-25 victory, it moved to the top of the rankings. South Africa Competing in Durban earlier this year, the Springboks regained their top spot with their efforts in the Rugby Championship shortly afterwards.

However, a defeat against Los Pumas in Argentina saw the Boks relinquish the number one spot with the advantage of Ireland and Andy Farrell’s side retaining top spot for just one game, with South Africa now replacing them.

World Rugby rankings are officially updated only at midday (GMT) on Monday. According to the current situation, South Africa (91.77) ranks first. New Zealand (91.21) came second and Ireland (90.58) came third.

The All Blacks put a deflated Ireland to the sword to put a swift end to their 19-game home winning streak

But that could change on Sunday when Rassie Erasmus’ charges face Scotland at Murrayfield.

The Springboks are well placed to retain top spot, as a draw would be enough to see them edge New Zealand by the best of margins, as in a stalemate Erasmus’ men end the weekend with 91, just 0.02 points more than their fiercest rivals. They will finish with 23 ranking points.

All Blacks player ratings: Damian McKenzie ‘looks like a Test scrum-half’ as ‘powerhouse’ forward stars to overtake Ireland

However, a win by more than 15 points would give them a rating point buffer of 1.25, and a win by a smaller margin would move them up the standings by 1.02 points.

Any defeat against Scotland would see Ireland move up to second, with the Springboks dropping to third. Neither South Africa nor Ireland can drop below third, as fourth-placed France cannot improve their place in the rankings by beating Japan, and the gap between third-placed and those below France is too large.
