A village pub has unexpectedly closed after customers were left upset by last-minute cancellations.

Tyler’s Bakery near Canterbury closed its doors on Tuesday after reopening under new management last year.

As pictures emerged showing the inside of the vacant tavern in Tyler Hill, potential customers also lamented the loss.

Louise Norman was preparing to dine there on Thursday but revealed she “got a call saying they were completely closed.”

Responding to the social media post, Michelle Godden said “another good pub” had disappeared, while Karla Tabony added: “This is so sad, such a fantastic pub.”

Sarah Pearson empathized with those who missed the opportunity, saying: “Given that it has been closed every time we have passed over the last few weeks, they could have given you more notice.”

“It’s pretty nice inside, but I have to admit we were disappointed with the food the last time we were there,” Lynn Morris said.

Libo Stevens added: “This is very bad news, it was always full when I walked in.”

No reason was given for the pub’s closure during a turbulent period when it closed in March last year. 12 months after grand reopening.

Allister Collins purchased The Tyler’s Kiln in 2012 and launched it in 2015 after a major renovation.

He quickly became a significant addition to the village, with Allister keen to ensure he “served the community”.

But it was hit hard by Covid and remained closed for 18 months, failing to reopen when restrictions were lifted.

Villagers were left in the dark about what was going on at the venue and Mr Collins gave little information about its future.

But in 2022, locals were relieved by the announcement of Kathton House, which previously had one of the most acclaimed restaurants in Sturry. He was going to take over the pub..

But the following year, patrons were forced to close their doors.

But soon new managers Dhvani Patel and Byron Hayter announced their hopes of winning back the villagers but maintaining the cashless policy that the previous tenants had bought into.

They hoped to impress customers with “honest pub food” and good beer, and reopened the pub months later before closing it again.
