In a Facebook postAndy’s wife Shyla Nelson Stewart addresses Netflix doc Martha. The post, signed by Syla and Andy, stated that this would be “the only public comment on this matter.”

“As some of you know, my husband, Andrew Stewart, is a wonderful broadcaster, amateur naturalist and nature photographer, and one of the kindest, most soft-spoken, kind-hearted men I have ever met,” Shyla wrote. “After being introduced as colleagues almost 12 years ago, no one was more surprised than we were to see our bond grow into a deep and eternal love.”

Shyla said she and Andy have “built a life infused with true love, full of beauty, meaning, productivity, and purpose, which we share as fully as we can with our beautiful blended family of 5 amazing adult children, the 3 of us.” our lovely grandchildren, our extended family and our dear friends.”

Shyla continues, “Before this happy chapter in his life, Andy had some dark times, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha (as in Martha Stewart) that ended almost 40 years ago. The documentary featured Martha talking about Andy’s infidelity during their marriage, and at one point advising young women that if their husbands were cheating on them, “he’s an asshole.”

In response, Shyla wrote: “The juxtaposition of Andy’s early life with the joyful, purpose-driven, loving marriage we experience today is remarkable. “Every day we openly express our gratitude for our love and our life together.”

Martha and Andy were married from 1961 to 1990 and had a daughter, Alexis, in 1965. In the Netflix doc, which premiered on October 30, Martha talks about Andy’s infidelity and also admits that he cheated on her once. She shares a kiss with a man in Florence on her and Andy’s honeymoon.

Concluding her post, Shyla wrote: “We both wish everyone, including Martha, the experience of loving and being loved deeply and fully, and the peace that comes from such love.”

Martha said ahead of the documentary’s premiere in New York: People She hasn’t spoken to Andy in over 20 years and has “no idea” if he’s seen the movie.
