Kino Lorber raised the curtain on Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada” and released the first trailer of the famous director’s latest movie.

The film premiered at Cannes in May and competed for the Palme d’Or. It has since toured the festival season with selections in both Toronto and New York. The cast includes Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, Jacob Elordi, Victoria Hill and Kristine Froseth. The official synopsis for the film reads: “Leonard Fife, one of 60,000 draft dodgers and draft dodgers who fled to Canada to avoid duty in Vietnam, shares all his secrets to demythologize his mythological life.”

Gere plays the elder Fife, a respected documentary filmmaker who gives his final testimony in an interview with his former students. Featured in a series of flashbacks, Elordi plays the younger version of Fife and follows his decision to leave the United States.

This marks the second collaboration between Gere and Schrader. The duo last worked together on 1980’s acclaimed “American Gigolo,” a provocative drama that cemented both their reputations in Hollywood.

Oh, Canada is based on the novel Foregone by Russell Banks. Schrader previously adapted Banks’ 1989 novel “Affliction” into the 1997 neo-noir crime drama of the same name. The film is produced by David Gonzales, Tiffany Boyle, Luisa Law, Scott LaStaiti and Meghan Hanlon.
