“We watch everything with subtitles because we’re 90 years old,” said Bush Hager, 42, an apparent reference to the TV habit she shares with her husband: Henry Hagar.

Kotb, 60, quickly backtracked and asked for clarification before asking, “Are you reading subtitles?” he shouted.

Bush Hager’s emphatic response sparked a wave of applause in front of the live studio audience; This reaction inspired Bush Hager to stand up and smile. “Thank you everyone,” he said. “I want to say this: Thank you for accepting me in my old age.”

“Wait, wait, wait. “I have a question,” Kotb said. “Do you have the subtitles because you can’t hear them?” After Bush confirmed that Hager was in fact the reason, Kotb said he was “just checking.”

Bush Hager emphasized that he did not find the subtitles distracting, stating that the subtitles appeared “at the bottom” of the television screen.
