OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – An Okaloosa County man is facing multiple charges, including impersonating a federal officer for allegedly pulling someone over.

Salvator Gruny, 69, was driving his personal Dodge Charger equipped with flashing blue, red and white lights when he pulled over a motorist on U.S. 98 in Mary Esther, Fla., for what he claimed was the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. reckless driving.

After the stop, the victim asked Gruny if he was a police officer. In response, deputies said Gruny said he was in government and displayed his Office of Naval Intelligence badge and a loaded 9mm gun.

The sheriff’s office said Gruny claimed to work for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and presented identification in the name of ONI, but was actually retired.

Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden said such incidents are rare for their county.

“Most of the time the people who pull you over in this county are wearing uniforms, they have one of those green and white patrol cars with big blue lights on them, and it’s pretty obvious you noticed us,” Aden said.

Officials with the Office of Naval Intelligence said Gruny had been warned in the past for similar actions.

He currently faces five charges, including openly carrying a weapon, impersonating a federal officer, use of a firearm during a felony, unlawful use of a blue light, and unlawful use of a badge.

Gruny was released Tuesday on $5,000 bail.
