All evacuation warnings for the vegetation fire in the Santa Lucia Canyon area north of Lompoc were lifted after the fire stopped advancing at 3:10 p.m., according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office. The limit is at 30 percent, according to County Fire.

Crews from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Vandenberg Fire Department, Los Padres National Forest and Cal Fire remain on the scene of the fire, which was first reported at 12:18 p.m. and burned approximately 130 acres near the Village of Vandenberg, according to incident command. Due to high winds and dry conditions, officials warned that the fire had the potential to spread to 1,000 acres.

No injuries or structure damage have been reported at this time. Santa Barbara County Fire Departmentt, the cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, an evacuation order was originally issued for the Lower Vandenberg Village and Providence Landing areas. A mandatory evacuation order was issued for areas west of Mercury Ave., all of Celestial Way and Maple High School at 1:19 p.m. An X from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department read: “No time to pack, please leave NOW.” The Sheriff’s Office announced that all of these orders were downgraded to a warning level shortly before 2:30 p.m., and were then completely canceled at 3:38 p.m. X. As responders are still in the area, residents are encouraged to use caution when returning home and stay informed about changing conditions.

A temporary evacuation point has been set up at the Trinity Church of Nazarine at 500 East North Boulevard in Lompoc. A small animal shelter has been established at 1501 W. Central Avenue in Lompoc.

The fire closed Highway 1 and Santa Lucia Canyon Road on the Highway 1 side. As of 12:55 p.m., travel from Utah Ave. to Washington Ave. and the Lompoc Gate was closed at Vandenberg Space Force Base, according to an alert from Vandenberg’s Facebook. Students from Maple High School in the Lower Village were evacuated by bus to Cabrillo High School, where they were picked up by family members, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.

Five aircraft responded to the Santa Lucia Fire and an air tanker left the active Mountain Fire in Ventura to assist, according to Cal Fire. The Mountain Fire remains 0 percent contained, having burned more than 19,600 acres as of Thursday afternoon. More than 800 firefighters are currently assigned to the Mountain Fire, mostly from Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Los Angeles, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
