NEWARK, NY – A woman is dead following a motorcycle crash on West Union Street in Newark on Thursday.

According to Newark Police, at around 4:43 p.m., two people, a male driver and a female passenger, were riding along the sidewalk on a motorcycle. Police said the driver was trying to move the bike onto the road when the rear tire hit the curb. The passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and an eyewitness told News10NBC that the passenger crashed into a pole. Police said he did not survive.

News10NBC photojournalist Rajae Barnes-Wright spoke with a witness at the scene; A teenager who said he and his mother performed CPR on one of the victims.

“It was only when he got out on the pavement and saw that she was flying – it was like she was blown up; flew back. “He hit the pole,” Myanna Ward said. “It’s like, I never thought I’d have to use this (CPR), especially right now in a moment like this – like sitting around doing nothing, and then all of a sudden you run out of your house and need help. .”

The investigation into the accident continues.
