YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Arizona Proposition 139 has been passed, expanding abortion access in Arizona by being included in the state constitution. Currently, there is a 15-week abortion ban in the constitution. The support will allow abortion until fetal viability, which is approximately 24 weeks of pregnancy.

“This means that every individual in the state has the fundamental right to an abortion, and the state of Arizona cannot interfere with that before the fetus is viable,” said Lupe Rodríguez, Executive Director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.

More than 61 percent of the public voted in favor of the proposal. The group “Arizona for Abortion Access” says it is pleased with the decision.
