COBB COUNTY, Ga. – The search continues for some individuals involved in an aggravated animal cruelty case in Cobb County. Some were caught on camera trying to dispose of the dead dog’s body.

Surveillance video shows two men carrying a metal dog crate covered with a sheet and placing it on top of a dumpster at the Legacy at West Cobb apartments on Favor Road. There is also a third man in the video, and they are leaning a mattress against the chest, obviously to hide him.

Cobb County Animal Services Director Steve Hammond says there was a dead dog in that crate.

A second video shows them coming back for the dog the next day.

“The perpetrators returned, removed the dog from the crate, placed it in a blue plastic bag and left the scene with it,” Hammond said.

Hammond wants to find out who these men are and a teenager who investigators say is responsible for the dog’s death.

“What we learned is that the dog drowned in the bathtub, and we believe the juvenile was involved,” Hammond said.

Hammond believes the dog was a young, brown and white pit bull. But researchers know little about the cub because they couldn’t find the animal’s body.

“We had a lot of sources searching the woods because at one point we were told it was located in the woods and in a creek there. Our search and rescue team from the police department came and helped search and we couldn’t find it,” Hammond said.

All this happened at the end of July. Even though they may never find the dog’s body, they are determined to find those responsible.

“We want to know who did this and we’re trying to get some closure on why and maybe it’s a person who needs help. We want to prevent something like this from happening in the future,” Hammond said.
