Philadelphia Flyers Sign Emergency Goalie for Tampa Bay Lightning Game

The Philadelphia Flyers ran into a logistical issue ahead of their road contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Flyers goaltender Aleksei Kolosov was injured during the morning skate and was later ruled out against the Lightning.

Since the teams are in Tampa Bay, the Flyers likely wouldn’t be able to get another goaltender on the field in time for the puck drop as a backup. With no viable option nearby, the Flyers signed an emergency backup goaltender.

The Flyers announced that they have signed forward Kyle Konin to an amateur tryout agreement and will serve as a backup against the Lightning. Ivan Fedotov is slated to serve as the Flyers’ starter.

This isn’t Konin’s first time suiting up as Tampa Bay’s emergency backup goaltender. The first will be in December 2021 in St. He arrived for the St. Louis Blues and most recently for the Lightning in April 2024. Despite serving as a two-time EBUG, he never logged a single second of ice time in the NHL.

Konin, 26, played college hockey at Grand Valley State University during the 2019-20 season.

The Flyers stated that Kolosov was out only on a daily basis. Sam Ersson, the usual starter, left the game with a lower-body injury.

Hockey fans love a good backup goaltender, and the Flyers and Lightning suddenly have a game to keep a close eye on.
