NASCAR truck series championship contender Ty Majeski fined for missing media session to go to vote

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — NASCAR Truck Series championship contender Ty Majeski was fined $12,500 by NASCAR this week for failing to comply with media obligations to vote in his home state of Wisconsin on Election Day.

Majeski is one of four drivers who could win the truck championship Friday night at Phoenix Speedway.

Majeski met with Thorsport Racing owners and everyone agreed he would vote on Tuesday.

“I felt like I had to do my duty as a US citizen to vote. “My team owners and I all decided to exercise this right,” he said.

Majeski called the sentence “unprecedented” and said he would appeal the decision.

He said he didn’t know he would be in his fourth championship until he earned points by placing 11th after Martinsville last week.

Majeski, 30, will compete with Corey Heim, Christian Eckes and Grant Enfinger to win his first truck series title.

“This has never happened before. “Election Day, everyone knew for a long time that it was Election Day,” he said. “This is an unfortunate situation for everyone.”

Majeski said he has always been an Election Day voter and has never filled out a ballot.

“I wanted to make sure my vote was counted,” he said.
