Vineland woman charged in apparent assault last month

BRIDGETON — A Vineland woman has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Millville last month.

Breanna Rowley, 22, was charged Thursday with murder, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, endangering an injured victim, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and obstruction of administrative law in death. 21-year-old Caroline Bump of Millville.

The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office said Rowley and Bump knew each other and were together before Bump’s death. October 22.

Police said Rowley claimed he was driving a silver 2003 Infinity G35 sedan around 11:15 p.m., when he struck Bump at a high rate of speed while he was standing on the side of the road. Rowley then fled the area, leaving Bump seriously injured or dead without providing aid or calling for help.

Bump was found by a passerby two hours later but was already dead, police said.

Police said Rowley took steps to conceal the damage to the vehicle involved in the crash.

In addition to the murder and weapons charges, Rowley was also charged in Salem County on Oct. 25 with obstructing the administration of law, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence. He is being held in the Salem County jail.
