Parks Canada has closed the eastern Rogers Pass area in British Columbia for avalanche control testing, saying it would also cause the Trans-Canada Highway to close.

The closure of Rogers Pass is so the Canadian Armed Forces can test howitzers used for avalanche control.

It will last from Thursday to Saturday.

Parks Canada says the program protects highways and rail traffic from natural avalanches but does not ensure the safety of skiers or snowboarders in the area.
