I-40 and I-25 are closed due to severe winter conditions

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Two major interstate highways in New Mexico – Interstate 25 and Interstate 40 – are closed Thursday due to the winter storm.

I-25 is closed at Raton Pass. I-40 is closed in Clines Corners due to severe winter weather.

NMDOT advises other roads may be snow-covered and icy and crews may salt and sand. They also recommend driving carefully and staying at least 15 feet behind snow plows.

In northeastern New Mexico, 94 miles of U.S. Highway 56 from Springer to the Texas state line are closed. US 64 was also closed from mile marker 350, one mile east of Raton, to mile marker 430 in Clayton.

The problems in these areas are snow-covered and icy roads and zero visibility due to blizzard conditions. Travel is not recommended.
