Police have arrested three people in connection with the hijacking of two battery-powered rickshaws after killing the drivers in Dhaka’s Gendaria area in September and October.

Those arrested are 21-year-old Celal Serdar alias Michael, 25-year-old Fazle Rabbi, Kala and 30-year-old Md Imran. Police also seized one of the two rickshaws.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deputy commissioner (DC-media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said at a press conference that during investigations into two different incidents, the police, with the help of technology, came to know that a criminal gang was involved in both crimes. In DMP’s media center.

Police arrested Jalal from Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur on October 24 and after his confessional statement, Imran was arrested on October 25 for purchasing an autorickshaw.

Police also arrested Rabbi Fazle from the Gendaria district last Saturday, based on information provided by Jalal.

While Jinnah, 60, a rickshaw driver, was killed near Gendaria cemetery on September 21, Anwar, 40, was killed on Dinanath Sen road of Gendaria on October 15.

Family members later filed separate lawsuits over the murders.

Speaking at the briefing, DMP’s Wari Division DC MD Saleh Uddin said the killers pretended to be passengers when they killed both men with sharp weapons.

He said Celal confessed to his involvement in both murders during preliminary interrogation. Jalal said that Rabbi Fazle was with him when he killed Enver alone during the murder of Jinnah.
