This box kept the cake safe as it was sent from Buckingham Palace to Marion Polson, housekeeper of Holyrood House in Edinburgh, Scotland, as a gift from the royal couple.

Along with the cake, Polson received a letter from Elizabeth thanking him for “such a lovely wedding gift.”

“We were both amazed by the dessert service; I know the different flowers and beautiful colors will be greatly appreciated by all who see it,” read the typewritten letter signed by Elizabeth.

“This is a gift that we will use constantly and use when we think of the kindness and good wishes for our happiness that it represents.”

Elizabeth and Philip’s wedding cake was an extravagant creation, measuring 8 feet tall and weighing 500 pounds.

It was decorated with the coats of arms of both families and sugary figures of the couple’s favorite activities. It yielded 2,000 slices for guests, hundreds sent to charities and other organizations, and a layer saved for the christening of then-Prince Charles.

A few of these slices also survived for decades and were sold at auction; Like a slice that fetched £1,750 ($2,300) in 2013, according to auction house Christie’s.
