Things to Remember Before Part 2

The Pogues will return to action as a Division 2 player on Thursday afternoon.Outer BanksSeason 4 is streaming on Netflix for the first time, but almost a month after the first five episodes aired, you may need a refresher on what they’ve been up to.

The entire crew of treasure-hunting misfits has disbanded by the end of Episode 1, and there are various stories to follow when you return to the second episode party. JJ has just learned that her father may not be who he thinks he is. Sarah and Pope are trapped in a cellar with rats and rising water levels. And the Pogues still haven’t solved the mystery of Blackbeard’s Blue Crown.

Even though Episode 1 had many action-packed scenes, the cast and crew teased that the Season 4 finale scene was the greatest scene in the series’ history. The Pogues continue their original mission even after Wes Genrette’s death; a mission that would take them all the way to Morocco.

Read on for a recap of the five most important things to remember from Episode 1 ahead of Episode 2’s Thursday premiere.

At the end of episode five, JJ delivers a letter from Wes Genrette to his alcoholic, abusive father in the hope that he can gain more clarity. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, Luke explains some of the letter’s points to his son.

Luke reveals that he is not JJ’s father, but that his real parents are Chandler Groff and Larissa Genrette, Wes’ daughter who died in a drowning accident, meaning JJ may be the heir to the Kook fortune. JJ doesn’t believe Luke at first due to his track record, but begins to connect the dots to understand why Wes is giving the Pogues a fight for the treasure.

Some of the Pogues went to Charleston in search of Blackbeard’s Blue Crown. After pulling the sticks, Sarah Cameron and Pope are tasked with descending into a tomb beneath a church to find the next clue. The couple is chased by rats and eventually encounter mercenaries (including Lightner, who kills Terrance). After hiding and successfully escaping from murderous mercenaries, Sarah and Pope realize they may be trapped in the flood cellar after Lightner and his partner unintentionally lock them inside.

This heartbreaking scene from Episode 4 is hard to forget, but it’s still important. When the mercenaries realized that the Pogues had found the amulet, they put a target on their backs. Lightner, arguably one of the most violent of the pirate crew, had already tried to attack Kiara and JJ underwater earlier in the season.

In the fourth episode, Lightner kidnaps Cleo and threatens to kill her if he cannot give her the amulet. At this point, he encounters Terrance, the father figure he thought was dead. Terrance insists he is not working with the enemy and reassures Cleo that he is on his team. When the trio arrive at the Pogues’ house, Cleo has trouble finding the trinket. Later, the Pope comes home with him. As Lightner tries to kill Cleo, Terrance jumps in front of him and is shot, eventually dying from the wound.

Hollis Robinson, one of the island’s top real estate agents, persuades Rafe’s girlfriend, Sophia, to encourage the heiress to her family’s fortune to make a business deal on the sale of Goat Island. Pogue tells Sophia that she should “get in while she can.” At first she refuses, but after Rafe speaks ill of her for her social standing, he forces her to hand over her fortune to the slick real estate agent. Rafe is still unaware of Sophia’s involvement in this plan.

Sheriff Shoupe has always been skeptical of JJ and the Pogues, so with so many bodies to investigate and no suspects, he turns to the troublemakers he knows best. The sheriff has not yet identified the unidentified body on the beach and the killer of Wes Genrette, who was strangled to death in his home. He takes JJ in for questioning and warns him that he will be the prime suspect if he acts.
