Caleb Williams: It’s frustrating we haven’t been able to connect with DJ Moore

Bears wide receiver DJ Moore took some time Wednesday to explain why he acted the way he did. left the field In last Sunday’s loss to a game against the Cardinals, however, that singular moment hasn’t been the biggest problem with Moore’s performance this season.

When the Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams, there was a lot of talk about how Moore and the rest of the team’s skill position players were setting the rookie up for success. However, production did not meet off-season hopes.

The Bears rank 29th in passing yards and 19th in points; Moore caught 37 passes for 374 yards after making 96 catches for 1,364 yards in his first season in Chicago. The lack of connection has become even more apparent over the past three games, as Moore had 10 catches for 80 yards and the topic started in Williams’ press conference on Wednesday.

“Obviously it’s not a holdover from past games, a place we want” said Williams. “Both of us. It’s very frustrating. You’ve got a very special guy and it’s frustrating for me not being able to connect and not being able to throw certain passes. I know it’s frustrating for him because you get so many chances, especially as a wide receiver, most of the time the ball gets in your way and stuff like that.”

Williams said he believes it’s important to “communicate a little bit more about the specifics of how he and I see it” for the connection to develop over the back half of the season, and Sunday’s game against the Patriots will be the next to check. on where things stand for the duo.
