Police arrested three teenagers following violent disorder in the city centre.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers received a number of calls following a series of attacks in Newark on Tuesday.

Police said a man in his 20s was taken to hospital after he was punched while walking in the market square at around 16:50 GMT.

Police claimed that in other searches made at similar times, a group of people threatened other people in the vicinity with a gun.

This included reports that a man had a knife pulled on him in Carter Gate, while others were confronted and threatened.

Also on October 25, police said a man in his late 60s was pushed aside and kicked in the head near the town’s market square.

According to police, a cyclist wearing a balaclava carried out the attack, then pushed a woman who got inside and tried to help.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault, affray and assaulting an emergency worker.

Police confirmed two more people, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of assault and battery.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with a knife.

Newark and Sherwood area commander Insp Charlotte Ellam said: “There is absolutely no place in our communities for the violence, disorder and intimidating behavior shown at these events.”

He confirmed investigations into the incidents were ongoing and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
