Residents vote to make Ogden Valley a city

WEBER COUNTY, Utah — Votes are still being counted in Weber County, but nearly 68% of voters so far are in favor of making the Ogden Valley a city, so the measure is being considered unofficial.

Mark Ferrin led the effort to consolidate the Ogden Valley with local control and management.

“It’s so beautiful right now that we really hope to welcome the world to the Olympics and cross country while keeping the rural impact and making it fun for everyone,” Mark said.

The state conducted a feasibility study that concluded the organization would not raise taxes. Enough residents signed the petition, so the question of whether to become a city was put to voters. Now that the measure is in place, Ferrin is happy with the outcome.

“We see each other in the only grocery store we have, and I think it will unite us more than ever. We’re thrilled that the election was so successful,” Ferrin added.

However, studies continue. They plan to contract with law enforcement and use other services through the county. Voters also decided that there will be 6 council members in the city and that these members will represent districts that have not yet been determined. This election is only one year away – November 2025.

“I will be running the candidate’s college probably every other week for the next year, giving everyone a chance to learn the words and decide if they want to run,” Ferrin said.

And while the city makes some of its decisions, the county will be there to help.

“We will work closely with them to align these districts with the district and legislative boundary lines that we have established, which will make it easier for everyone,” Weber County Clerk Auditor Ricky Hatch said.

People are looking forward to seeing how this move will shape the future of the Ogden Valley. “Whether you accept it or not, this process is working. Their voices were heard, they made their choices, and now they are a new entity. And it was really exciting to watch,” Hatch said.
