CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says a car chase ended in a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies attempted to pull over a car in the Valley View community around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, but the driver, identified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol as 25-year-old Cassie Miller, did not stop and fled from police, CCSO said.

Miller then led deputies on a chase that ended with a crash on Howard Road in LaFollette around 1:40 p.m., where he attempted to negotiate a curve but went off the road and struck a tree, according to THP’s preliminary report.

Miller was fatally wounded, troopers said. A 55-year-old passenger was also injured in the accident.

Additional information, including what prompted deputies to make the traffic stop, was not released.

THP is investigating the crash.
