Max Jones accepted waivers

Bruins forward Max Jones cleared waivers on Wednesday and can now be sent to Providence.

The B’s signed Jones to a two-year deal worth $1 million per season. The second year of the deal likely served as a disincentive for teams to pursue claims.

Jones was the victim of a perfect storm working against him. He suffered a groin injury during the Black-Gold match at the beginning of training camp and missed almost the entire camp. Meanwhile, the B’s fourth lineup of Cole Koepke, Johnny Beecher and Mark Kastelic came together and Jones became the odd man out.

In four games with the B’s, he was unable to match his game of speed and physicality. He took four minor penalties and was minus-4.

Due to the physical nature of the NHL, Jones could still return to Boston, but he will now have to regain his form in the AHL, where the former Anaheim Duck has not played since 2019-20.
