Sheriff says a Mason Co. woman was arrested for refusing to take off her political hat and then pushing an election worker – 9&10 News

MASON COUNTY — At 12:48 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to Hamlin City Hall regarding a report of an assault involving an alleged shoving of the Hamlin County Clerk.

Deputies learned from interviews with contacts that a 52-year-old woman in Hamlin County walked into the Hamlin County Hall to vote. The woman was reportedly wearing the hat of a political candidate.

When asked to remove the hat, the woman became angry, refused to take it off and began recording people at the polling place, deputies said.

At one point, the county clerk was pushed toward another county employee, deputies said.

The woman then left the building but returned while officers were at the scene. It was stated that during the arrest, the suspect refused to comply while being handcuffed and struggled with deputies.

The woman remains in the Mason County Jail while awaiting trial.
