While Sara Sharif’s father denies beating his daughter, he claims that his ‘crazy’ wife abused him at home | UK News

Sara Sharif’s father told the court that he did not beat the 10-year-old girl, and that his wife was “very, very crazy” and accused him of harassment.

Taxi driver Urfan Sharif, his wife Beinash Batool and his brother Faisal Malik are on trial at the Old Bailey accused of Sara’s murder in August last year.

Giving evidence in court on Wednesday, Sharif said: “Everything happened at home while I was at work.

“I didn’t beat him, I didn’t do anything to him.”

In WhatsApp messages to her sisters, Batool claimed that her husband had been beating her daughter “like crazy” for at least two years.

The sheriff denied this and instead claimed his wife, Sara’s stepmother, was “very, very crazy” and cited video evidence of him abusing her.

He said he recorded the events “so he could leave me alone” and “so he would stop what he was doing.”

The taxi driver claimed that his wife “didn’t care about anything” and that her family said, “Someone had cast a black spell on her.”

The sheriff became emotional as he told jurors: “I was jumping out the kitchen window when he locked the front door.

“Most of the time, when I got angry, I would jump out of the living room window.”

The court was shown two videos from the Sheriff’s Google drive. He said one of them was taken in February 2016 after his wife accused him of flirting with a hospital nurse.

In the video, the man is heard saying: “You’re forcing me. You’re abusing me. Get off me.”

“You’re hitting me. I’ll use that as evidence for you, I’m telling you now.”

Batool asked him to stop filming and said: “I’m not afraid of you.”

Referring to what the video shows, Şerif said in court: “He kicked me. I ran to the other room, he is standing in front of the door, so I can’t get out.”

In a second video dated June 26, 2019, Şerif can be seen repeatedly saying “leave me” to his wife before jumping out of the window.

She told jurors Batool “slapped” her and added: “You have the choice of either fighting that person or leaving.

“I tried to leave, but he locked the front door. I jumped out of the kitchen window.”

Sharif, 42, Batool, 30, and Malik, 29, deny murder and causing or permitting the death of a child between December 16, 2022 and August 9, 2023.
