Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Mr Francis Zaake, is currently at the Sister Kevin wing of Nsambya Hospital in Kampala, where he was hospitalized after being beaten during a fight in Parliament on Wednesday morning.

His admission followed a fight in the Parliament chambers in the early hours of Wednesday morning, in which he was punched several times over a chair by his Kilak North counterpart Anthony Akol.

Speaking to reporters from his hospital bed, Mr Zaake blamed his colleague for the fights that broke out during the debate on Rationalization of State Institutions and Public Expenditure (RAPEX).

“I found him (Akol) sitting in my seat (he was sitting before standing up to make his presentation at the Parliament podium), then I told him to stand up and leave but he refused and before I knew it he started punching me. “Mr Zaake told reporters.

Mr Zaake told reporters he felt some pain in his head.

He believes that the events of November 6 were staged to blunt the fight against the 2024 Coffee Bill, which was later passed by the House of Representatives.

“I think Mr. Akol was sent to do this to me… and he punched me many times… I feel a lot of burning in the back of my head and I was given painkillers. I hope I get better.” Mr. Zaake said.

The medical team caring for Zaake refused to provide details about his health to the media.

Under the leadership of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, Opposition Members visited Mr Zaake to check up on him and convey their sympathies.

Mr Ssenyonyi condemned the chaotic scenes that unfolded in the halls of Parliament.

“We kept wondering where Hon Anthony Akol’s anger and resentment was coming from because we saw videos showing him raining blows on Hon Zaake. We don’t know if this was a trap for the whole thing,” Mr. Ssenyonyi said. .

The Opposition Leader also blamed Speaker Anita Among, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary session, for the chaotic scenes in the House.

Opposition members had earlier objected to the passage of the law on the grounds that it was unfavorable to ordinary farmers.
