College Football Playoff: First Standings Announced

The top 12 teams in the season’s final College Football Playoff rankings will be included in this year’s 12-team playoff. The top four conference champions receive a first-round bye, while the remaining spots will be filled by the fifth-highest conference champion and the remaining seven top-ranked programs. In this week’s rankings, Oregon, Georgia, Miami and BYU will get a bye in the first round.

The first round contests will take place as follows: Boise State at Ohio State, Alabama at Texas, Notre Dame at Penn State and Indiana at Tennessee.

The remaining top 25 rankings include four ACC teams: No. 13 SMU, No. 18 Pittsburgh, No. 22 Louisville and No. 24 Missouri. The SEC also has No. 14 Texas A&M, No. 15 LSU and No. 16 Ole Miss stuck in the middle bracket, while Missouri is No. 24. Also in the Big 12, Iowa State is ranked 17th and Kansas State is ranked 19th. and No. 20 Colorado.

Army, undefeated with a score of 8-0, ranks 25th. The Black Knights will need to get past Boise State to be automatically selected as the fifth-highest-ranked conference champion. Army has yet to beat a ranked opponent. The Notre Dame game will be played at Yankee Stadium in New York on November 23.

The four matches in the first round will be played at the home campuses of the higher-ranked teams between December 20-21. The four quarter-final matches will be played between December 31 and January 1 in the Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar bowls. 1.

The two semifinal matches will be played on January 9-10 at the Orange and Cotton bowls. The championship game will be played on January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
