US Election 2024: A video shows US presidential candidate Kamala Harris talking on the phone with a Democratic voter. But the viral video got Harris in trouble. Here’s why.

Video with over 1 million views on X (formerly excitement), shows Harris asking the voter if he or she has voted before. Harris waits and exclaims with joy: “You did it! Thank you!”

The Democratic candidate smiles and shows his phone to everyone as people around him applaud him. It then appears that the phone camera is on while it does not show any calls. The video is from a clip from CNN.

“It’s very important that everyone participates…enjoy the day, okay?” Harris says next. The outgoing vice president was at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Headquarters in Washington, D.C. when the video was shot.

“Is there anything real about these people? He actually believes that people have fallen into this stupidity,” one user wrote.

In Harris’ defense

Some defended the presidential candidate. “It is possible for calls to be active in the background while other apps are open,” one user said.

“You are wrong. We just tested it with my daughter. When in camera mode, when you answer a call it switches to camera mode away from your face, and when you turn to your ear it goes back to a black screen. “Just like video shows,” came another.
