Exit polls 2024: How the gender gap is emerging in many key states

Gender difference is considered an important factor presidential election Between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

But some pollsters told ABC News they were bracing for a “gender gap” this year, given the contrast between men and women. Roe v. Preliminary results from exit poll data, which could change as polls are updated throughout election night, provide some insight into voting preferences among men and women in key states.

Georgia

In Georgia, early results show Harris holds a 7-point advantage over Trump among women: 53% support to Trump’s 46%.

Compared to 2020 exit polls, Harris remains slightly behind President Joe Biden among women. Women preferred Biden by 9 percentage points. Biden flipped the state blue for the first time in decades, scoring a narrow victory there over Trump by fewer than 12,000 votes.

Trump has a 12-point advantage over men in Georgia; preliminary results show: 55% to Harris’ 43%. This is the same gap he had against Biden in the 2020 election.

Among young voters ages 18 to 29, women support Harris by a 29-point margin. Trump, meanwhile, has just a 2-point advantage among men in the same age group.

North Carolina

In North Carolina, the first results show that women preferred Harris with 13 points, while men preferred Trump with 15 points.

That represents a much wider gender gap than the state saw in 2020, according to exit polls. Here, Biden came first in women with a difference of 7 points, and Trump took first place in men with a difference of 9 points.

Among young voters, Harris has a 33-point lead among women and Trump has a 23-point lead among men.

Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, a battleground considered a possible turning point state, Harris has a 12-point lead among women: 55% compared to Trump’s 43%.

Trump’s lead among men is slightly higher: He has a 14-point lead among men: 56% compared to Harris’ 42%.

Again, preliminary exit poll results show a larger gender gap between Harris and Trump than between Biden and Trump. In 2020, women preferred Biden by 11 points and men preferred Trump by 11 points.

While women aged 18-29 support Harris by 40 points, Trump is ahead of men in this age range by 24 points.

Arizona

In Arizona, women support Harris by 3 points: 51%, compared to 48% for Trump.

Trump, meanwhile, leads by a larger margin among men: 52% support from the group compared to Harris’ 45%.

This also represents a wider gender gap than in 2020, when Biden won women by 3 points and Trump won men by 2 points.

Michigan

According to preliminary results, Harris holds an 8-point advantage among women in the battleground state: 53% compared to Trump’s 45%.

Trump has an 11-point lead among men: 54% compared to Harris’ 43%.

According to preliminary results, among young voters aged 18-29, Harris is ahead by 16 points among women and Trump is ahead by 20 points among men.

Wisconsin

Harris is winning by 11 points among women in Wisconsin: 55% compared to Trump’s 44%. He falls just short of Biden’s 13-point advantage with women in 2020.

Trump has a 9-point lead among men: 54% compared to Harris’ 45%. Trump won men in the state by 10 points in 2020.

According to preliminary results, among young voters aged 18-29, Harris has an 18-point lead among women, while Trump has a 5-point lead among men.
