New York Mets Could Make a Harsh Decision on Former Top Prospect in 2025

The New York Mets, who clinched the National League Championship Series in 2024, are already looking forward to 2025.

As they start thinking about next year’s roster, they are considering a potentially serious move with a veteran prospect.

According to Mike Puma, who covers the Mets for the New York Post:

David Stearns isn’t ruling out the possibility of Brett Baty seeing action in the outfield. The organization was impressed with how quickly Baty took over at 2B last season.

Stearns made these comments at chief executive meetings in Texas. These started on Monday night.

Baty, 24, attracted a lot of attention as a top prospect but failed to put it together in New York. He is a .215 hitter in parts of three seasons. He hit just .229 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 50 games this season.

Ahead of the 2023 season, it was ranked No. 33 on Baseball America and peaked at No. 21 on MLB.com.

Baty is the third baseman, but given the presence of Mark Vientos at that position, he doesn’t seem to have a path to get there anymore. If Baty wants to stay in the game mets For the organization, the outfield may be the best path for him. However, if the Mets sign Juan Soto this summer, that could also be difficult.

There’s always a chance Baty could be traded and get a fresh start somewhere else.

In 62 games at Triple-A Syracuse this year, Baty hit .252 with 16 homers.
