When should the results be checked?

Typically, US news outlets begin their predictions just after polls close on Election night – the evening of November 5 in the US and the morning of November 6 in India.

To become President of the United States, a candidate must receive at least 270 of the 538 votes (Electoral College). However, if the contest is very close in swing states and there are large numbers of mail-in ballots, the overall winner may not be clear until hours or even days after Election night.
