Brighton and Hove: Tesco gets liquor license with strict conditions

Tesco’s new branch in Brighton has been granted a liquor license despite the council previously objecting to the proposal.

The supermarket chain has convinced Brighton & Hove City Council that its express branch on Western Road, opposite Churchill Square, will not further exacerbate alcohol-related problems in the area.

The store is planned to open at the vacant 194 Western Road, Brighton, formerly Currys, between Costa and Marks and Spencer. Beverages can be sold between 08:00 – 22:00 every day.

The council’s decision letter said Tesco had agreed to accept the strict conditions following discussions with Sussex Police.
