iHeartMedia Cares About Kids Radiothon returns for its 24th year

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The 24th annual iHeartMedia Cares for Kids Radiothon is one month away.

This is a three-day event where the community can come together to support Georgia Children’s Hospital.

More than 75,000 children come to the hospital every year, and you can be a part of helping miracles happen for these families at home.

we shared Coale’s story with you last year. He was born with brittle bone disease.

Coale is one of thousands of children being treated at the children’s hospital.

“It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to know that I can go down the street and get the care I need for Coale,” said Coale’s mother, Rebecca Peace.

Coale’s bones break easily, often with little or no apparent cause. At almost 7 years old it still happens.

“It’s nice to know there’s a place where I can get x-rays, get advice, get help with a splint,” Peace said.

You will have the opportunity to call and donate during the Cares for Kids Radiothon.

Catherine Steward, Director of Philanthropy, said: “Whether it is support for programmatic things that will make hospital a little more fun and friendly for children, equipment upgrades, new technology or research, these all directly impact children.” Georgia Children’s Hospital.

Peace says Coale saw firsthand during therapy appointments how donations from Radiothon really made a difference.

“It looked like a big ball pit and there was obviously some wear and tear, so it was a lot of fun to see the old one out and the new one out,” he said. “It was nice to be able to see where some of the funds were going because these are things we actually use every day in the physical therapy office.”

The three-day event is filled with stories of hope and recovery from patients and their families, which we will share both live and on the radio.

Minnesota Fatz with iHeart Media has been a part of Radiothon for over 15 years.

“When I walk around the floors of the children’s hospital and see those little kids, it touches me and motivates me to continue what we’ve done in the past,” Fatz said. “We have grown for 24 years, that is a long time.”

Peace says he wants to send the message that everything goes a long way.

“Some people don’t give because they say they only have $1 or $5, but in reality it’s the sum of $1 and $5,” he said.

The Radiothon will take place December 5-7 and you can call and donate here.

They raised more than $262,000 last year, but you can donate to the hospital at any time.
