Seattle Mariners Top Prospect Takes Home Prestigious Minor League Award

A day after Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and M’s reliever Dylan Moore won Gold Glove Awards at the major league level, prospect Brock Rodden took home the honor at the minor league level. Rodden won the award for his play at second base.

According to Mariners PR:

Rodden, 24, appeared in 131 games in 2024 between High-A Everett (67G) and Double-A Arkansas (64G). The second baseman had a total of 359 chances in 88 games for the AquaSox and was involved in 44 double plays. and the Travelers are posting a .978 fielding percentage.

According to MLB Pipeline, Rodden is currently ranked 22nd in the M organization. He was selected by the M’s in the 2023 draft out of Wichita State. Listed at just 6-foot-7 inches tall, Rodden is rated by MLB scouting services as a solid runner and solid defender.

The following comes from his MLB.com prospect profile:

Rodden is an undersized hitter who is capable of producing quality strikes from both sides of the plate. Although he hit 17 homers in his senior year at Wichita State and has some extra-base authority, he has a definite over-power hitting profile. He doesn’t strike out a lot and draws a good amount of walks.

An above-average runner and aggressive on the basepaths, Rodden fits best at second base if he settles into a position. He’s more likely to move defensively, with a chance to fit the overachieving, gritty utility profile in the big leagues.

Rodden is expected to make his league debut in 2025. M’s There are all kinds of questions at second base after declining Jorge Polanco’s option last week. Maybe Rodden can fit into the scheme later in the year.
