Part of Downtown Greenville is closed for several months today

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – Getting to your favorite spot in Downtown Greenville might be a little more challenging as a new section is closed for construction today.

According to a statement from the City of Greenville, the intersection of East Fifth Street and Cotanche Street will be closed on Monday and is expected to last 5 to 6 months.

This is the next step in the Greenville BUILD project, which will widen sidewalks, implement brick crosswalks, add field furniture, among others.

According to the General Manager of University Book Exchange, they have experienced numerous road closures which have been challenging from a business perspective, but they are confident that this will be beneficial in the end.

“There are people who know where we are, we’ve been here for over 56 years,” Yvonne Perry said.

According to Perry, Evans has rear parking lots and front parking lots that people can use.

Motorists can use Reade Circle and East Fourth Street to avoid construction, according to the city. The portion of Evans Street that intersects Fifth Avenue will also remain open.
