MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. —St. St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg is expected to miss the next four to six weeks with an apparent right leg injury.

Coach Drew Bannister gave an update on Broberg’s condition on Monday, calling it a lower-body injury. Bannister said the prognosis was good news given how bad the injury looked at the time.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Bannister said after practice. “I’m happy he’s coming back. It could have been worse, but it’s not. He was playing really good hockey and now he’s saying, ‘Let’s get him back on the ice and get him back to game speed.’ It’s going to take some time, but I think the player himself is really happy.”

Broberg’s right leg was bent at an odd angle when he was pinned against Toronto forward Mitch Marner in the second period on Saturday night. He grabbed his leg and needed help getting off the ice.

The 23-year-old Swede became the last Blues player to miss time due to injury. The team is currently without forwards Robert Thomas, Kasperi Kapanen and Mathieu Joseph, and defensemen Nick Leddy and Torey Krug.

Thomas suffered a broken ankle, while Krug is expected to be out for the entire season after undergoing ankle surgery.

“I think our guys do a really good job responding to those types of situations,” Bannister said. “You can’t wait for someone to come in and take over Robby’s job or Broberg’s job. You need it to be a team effort and you need all 20 guys to be pulling in the same direction, playing the right way.”

Scott Perunovich, St. He looks set to replace Broberg on St. Louis’ roster, which is 6-6-0 through 12 games. Broberg was among the team’s leading scorers with nine points after signing an offer form as a restricted free agent last summer.

“Now Prune can step in and get an opportunity, and we’re going to have to rely on those guys to play good hockey for us,” Bannister said. “When these guys are out there, the group on the ice will take care of business. This is an opportunity to make sure we’re doing the right thing, and we can’t just rely on one or two players to pick up the slack. We need everyone on the ice to be moving in the right direction.”
