Maintenance worker shot to death on I-90 in Hanover

HANOVER, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash that shut down traffic on I-90 West Monday morning.

The crash occurred at 8 a.m. just before Exit 58 in Hanover.

New York State Police said a preliminary investigation determined that a car traveling westbound struck and killed a Thruway Authority maintenance worker who was outside the Thruway Authority vehicle.

All westbound lanes between Exit 57 and Exit 58 were closed for several hours.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

New York. Governor Kathy Hochul made the following statement about the accident:

“Earlier today, a Highway Authority Maintenance employee was tragically killed when he was struck by a vehicle while working on I-90 in Silver Creek. We are heartbroken over the devastating death of a dedicated public servant, and my prayers are with his family, friends and family during this difficult time.” Roadside workers risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of all motorists on the road and they deserve our utmost attention at all times. This is the second death involving a Highway maintenance worker this year and we need to slow down, pull over safely and stay on the roadside. “It is a serious reminder to be careful of all stopped vehicles.”
