Who is in Kemi Badenoch’s new shadow cabinet? | Politics News

After winning the Conservative Party leadership race, Kemi Badenoch began unveiling her top team in her new shadow cabinet.

Mrs. Badenoch, who beat Robert Jenrick to become the new Tory leaderHe said the party’s first task would be to hold Labor to account and prepare to govern until the next election.

His appointments so far are as follows:

Dame Rebecca Harris – chief whip

Dame Rebecca has been the Conservative MP for the Essex constituency of Castle Point since May 2010 and will replace Stuart Andrew as chief whip.

The post will enforce party discipline and seek to ensure MPs vote in line with the leadership.

Dame Rebecca, who supported the Leave campaign during the 2016 Brexit referendum, also served as Comptroller of the Household from 2022 to 2024; this was an ancient and largely ceremonial duty delegated to the government whip.

Sky News understands Nigel Huddleston and Dominic Johnson have been appointed joint leaders of the Conservative Party.

The role includes overseeing Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) and internal party management.

Laura Trott – shadow education secretary

According to information obtained by Sky News, Laura Trott, who served as chief secretary to the Treasury under Rishi Sunak, has been appointed as shadow education minister.

Ms Trott has been MP for Sevenoaks since 2019 and has also held other ministerial roles, including secretary for work and pensions.
