According to the Ghaziabad Bar Association’s plea, the clashes were due to District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar’s refusal to hear the anticipatory bail plea in a rape case.

It was alleged that the lawyer representing the complainant in the rape case protested the continuation of the interim measure against the defendant and requested a hearing on the matter. However, the judge is said to have “expressly refused” to hear the case on October 29 or transfer the matter to another court.

It was also claimed in the defense that the judge became angry and verbally abused the lawyers when the lawyer requested that the case be sent to another court if he did not want to hear the case. The judge then called in security personnel, which escalated the tense situation and led to a police-lawyer clash, the defense adds.
