SUV crashes into Topsfield Bakeshop

An SUV crashed into the entrance of a Topsfield bakery Sunday afternoon, according to the Topsfield Fire Department.

The department said the North Shore Regional 911 Center began receiving calls about the crash around 1:13 p.m. Statement published on Facebook. The department said no injuries were reported and a building inspector responded to assess the building’s safety.

The bakery, Topsfield Bakeshop, will be closed on Monday as per its usual schedule. The department said it plans to open with temporary doors Tuesday morning.

Photos posted on social media show a Subaru Forester with its front inserted into the bakery’s now-concave glass door, along with cement blocks and wood panels that appear to have been dislodged from the outside of the building.

A Facebook user named Veronica Joy commented on the fire department’s post, saying that she and her daughter were the only customers in the store when the accident occurred.

“Luckily it’s near the register and away from the door,” Joy wrote. “The staff reacted quickly and asked us if we wanted to go behind the counter and exit out the back. It was scary though.”

The Topsfield Police Department is investigating the incident. No further information was available.
